Dev Blog - Marked For Deletion
Between working on my degree project and onboarding for my internship, I almost forgot to share my final group project Marked For Deletion. It was a fast, four week project and my team had a lot of fun with it. We decided to make a meta stealth game where a game bug, irritated with being ignored, tasks the player with deleting all the developers. We wanted to draw attention to the work of the different people who work on games, and what happens when their work disappears.
It wasn’t a very narrative-heavy game, so in addition to writing any text that was needed, I also created the game’s UI. I designed all the menu screens, objectives, investor and bug text panels, including glitch and pixelated effects that were used when deleting the devs in the game and in the intro sequence (which I created and scripted). In addition, I created the win/end sequence, including a custom fatal error page.
Another fun aspect I was able to help out with was the environmental storytelling. I created custom desks for each of the developers with clues to their profession. I also designed and created a wall sign of the game company’s logo to use in the reception area, as well as set dressed several tables and seating areas with randomized items.
Overall, it was a great learning experience and I’m grateful to my team for a wonderful final group project at Futuregames.
